Alphabet Learning Spoons

Spoons Apart

Sassy is in kindergarten and doing very well. The only issue she has is not being able to recognize some of the lowercase letters. I came across a picture on Pinterest that had a very awesome suggestion.

This is a very easy and cheap learning tool that helps kids recognize and match uppercase and lowercase letters.

All you need is a pack of white plastic spoons, a pack of clear plastic spoons, and a permanent marker. I used 7 different colors of permanent marker just to make them spunky. :-)

All you have to do write each uppercase letter on each white spoon (works best on the upper part of the scoop close to the handle).

Next, place the clear plastic spoon on top of the white one.

Write the corresponding lowercase letter on the clear spoon (works best on the lower part of the scoop).

Here is what they look like side by side:

I stood on a chair to try to get a good shot of all of the spoons together and Sassy made sure to jump in the pic!

This is what they look like when they are matched.

(Sorry for the glare! It’s the clear spoons fault! I think you get the jist though!)

Here is what they look like when they are apart.

(I had to change the background because the letters seemed to turn camouflage on my pink and black fabric! )

Spoons Apart

I store the spoons in a little cloth lunch sack that I made.

Sassy had so much fun matching the spoons up!

She was so impressed with herself every time she made a match, she would say, “Ka-blam-O!” and we even started spelling words with the spoons!

So, if you have a kid that needs a little practice, I suggest you try this! It is very fun and super easy!
